It was an ordinary August afternoon in Missouri last week when the Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) team received a report about a small, fluffy animal apparently left behind along a busy roadway.
The rescue crew rushed to the scene, and beneath the constant rumble of traffic from a bustling interstate overhead, they spotted it—a little face peeking out from the side of the road.
“A frightened puppy hiding under a highway overpass!” SRSL shared on Facebook.
Despite the deafening rush of cars, the golden-furred pup remained frozen in place, tucked into a small alcove just off the shoulder. He was completely alone—no sign of food, water, or people nearby. Resting his chin on the ground, his eyes silently begged for help.
The SRSL rescuers had no way of knowing how he ended up there, but one thing was certain—they wouldn’t leave without him.
Within minutes, they carefully slipped a leash over his head and coaxed him from his hiding spot, leading him to the safety of their vehicle.
Back at SRSL’s headquarters, the pup was showered with affection and given a full veterinary exam. Fortunately, he appeared to be in good health. The team estimated he was about 3 years old, likely a Great Pyrenees mix, and quickly cleared him for foster care.
That’s when George and Vicki Dunn stepped in as foster parents, thrilled to bring the gentle boy into their home.
“We lovingly call him Remi,” George wrote in a Facebook comment. “He’s such a sweet boy and has really come out of his shell since arriving. He’s already playful and has a family excited to welcome him into their lives…”
Remi is thriving in foster care, but his journey isn’t over yet. Once he’s neutered, he’ll officially be able to join his adoptive family.
After surviving alone under a noisy overpass, Remi’s life has taken a complete turn for the better. Soon, he’ll be going home to a forever family already brimming with love and anticipation.
“He is already so, so loved!” his future mom, Ellen Pendry, wrote in a comment.
