Her relief was overwhelming 😭
A few months back in Houston, Texas, a mother and her young daughter stumbled across a Facebook post about a puppy named Scratchy. From the pictures, it was clear that Scratchy was tiny, suffering from mange, and yet completely adorable.
As they read more about him, they learned that Scratchy had been placed on the shelter’s euthanasia list due to his severe skin condition. The little girl was devastated and made up her mind instantly — she would do whatever she could to help save his life.
Her mother, Michelle, immediately began trying to track Scratchy down, but she couldn’t figure out exactly where he was.
For several nerve-wracking days, the little girl kept asking her mom again and again what had happened to Scratchy. Her worry only grew, and she couldn’t stop imagining the worst.
Then, an unexpected blessing came — Michelle discovered that Scratchy had been taken in by Three Little Pitties Rescue. He was finally safe and receiving the medical care he needed.
Without hesitation, Michelle volunteered to foster him. She brought Scratchy home and made sure he was comfortable, but she didn’t tell her daughter just yet — she wanted to surprise her.
That afternoon, when her daughter came home from school, Scratchy was there waiting for her. The moment she saw him, she froze in disbelief, then collapsed to the floor with her backpack still on, sobbing tears of joy.
“[She] cared so deeply all week about a little mangy dog,” Three Little Pitties Rescue shared on Instagram. “And her sense of relief getting to hold him.”
As soon as she opened his crate, Scratchy ran straight to her and began licking the tears from her face.
“Pure, deep, love at first sight,” the rescue wrote.
For the past few months, Michelle and her family have been fostering Scratchy, showering him with all the love and care he needs. He’s been thriving — playing tug-of-war, chasing balls, and curling up for snuggles with everyone.
“This puppy is being treated like a king in his foster home while he heals up,” Three Little Pitties shared. “He has kids to tend to his every need, and he is being celebrated for his life and who he is!”
Thanks to Three Little Pitties and Michelle, Scratchy was given a second chance. And because of one determined little girl, he finally knows what it feels like to be truly loved.
“This little guy was once out of time, but now he’s safe — and continuing to steal hearts every day.”
