Richard selflessly buys a bus ticket for a desperate mother of three, only to find dozens of boxes on his doorstep the next day. But he never imagined one of them would cause serious trouble—until his daughter opens it.
It was a bright, cloudless morning. Richard had his headphones on, humming softly as he mopped the familiar floors of the bus station. For the past decade, this place had been his second home.
Then, a quiet voice broke his rhythm.
“Excuse me.”
He turned to find a woman—maybe mid-thirties—standing there. She looked exhausted, her face streaked with tears and eyes swollen from crying. A baby rested in her arms while two older children clung to her sides.
Richard immediately took off his headphones. “Can I help you?”
She hesitated before speaking. “I need to get to New York. I don’t have money. My husband… I’m trying to get away from him. He’s not a safe man. I shouldn’t even be telling you this, but I lost my wallet, and I need to reach my sister.”
Richard could feel her desperation. Without thinking twice—even though it meant giving up his last bit of cash—he walked to the counter and bought her the ticket.
“Thank you… thank you so much,” she whispered through tears.
“Take care of your little ones,” he replied gently.
“Can I have your address?” she asked.
Richard raised an eyebrow. “Why?”
“I want to pay you back. Please.”
Reluctantly, he scribbled it down. Moments later, the bus pulled away, carrying her and her children out of sight.
That evening, after finishing his shift, Richard returned to the small home he shared with his daughter, Amanda. Ever since his wife had left them, Amanda had become his whole world. Despite being only ten, she helped cook, clean, and brighten his life with her energy and warmth.
Their evenings were usually filled with laughter, stories, and experimental recipes in their cramped kitchen. That night felt no different—until the morning came.
“Dad! Wake up!” Amanda called, gently shaking him.
He blinked groggily. “What’s wrong, honey?”
“There’s something weird outside. You need to see it.”
Still half-asleep, Richard followed her to the front porch—where he stopped in shock. A dozen or more boxes were stacked outside their door. At first, he thought it was a delivery mistake. But then he spotted a handwritten envelope resting on top.
And that’s when everything began to change…
