It was a cold, rainy night. Angie clutched her newborn twins at a desolate bus stop, shivering and exhausted. “Where can we go? Lord, please help us. Keep us safe through this storm,” she whispered, gently wiping tears from her babies’ cheeks. She had no home, no family left—her parents had passed away long ago.
Suddenly, she heard something move behind her. Her heart raced as she turned to shield her infants from danger—only to realize it was a stray dog. “Just a dog,” she exhaled, her fear softening for a moment.
Angie never imagined her life would unravel so quickly. Just a week ago, she was in her home with her husband, Jake—the man she had once trusted completely. And now, she was out in the cold with their newborns, abandoned by the very person she loved most.
“If only Mom were here,” she whispered through sobs. “I’m sorry, Mama… you were right about him. I should’ve waited.”
Jake had issued his cruel ultimatum without blinking:
“You can stay here if you agree to keep just one baby. But if you insist on keeping both, you’ll have to leave.”
They had met five years earlier, fresh out of college. Jake was charming, confident—everything she thought she wanted. Their romance felt like a fairy tale, but Angie didn’t know fairy tales could crash so hard.
The tension began during their fourth year of marriage, when Angie announced her pregnancy.
“But this is terrible timing,” Jake protested. “I just launched my business. We’ve waited this long—I’m not ready to be a dad right now.”
His reaction cut deep. Angie longed to become a mother, while Jake clearly wasn’t ready for any of it. She was already heartbroken over his lack of enthusiasm—so what would happen when he found out she was carrying not one, but two babies?
Before her ultrasound, Jake had half-joked, “I can handle one baby, okay? Just don’t come out saying it’s twins.” His smirk masked his fear, but fate had its own plans.
When Angie walked out of the scan room, her face was pale—no joy, no excitement.
Jake’s smile faded. “What is it? What did the doctor say?”
She hesitated, knowing his likely reaction. “They’re both doing well,” she said softly.
“…Both?”
Angie nodded. The scan had revealed she was pregnant with twins. Jake’s face twisted in disbelief, then anger. Without another word, he stormed off to his car. Angie could already see where this was going—and she wasn’t wrong.
