I had a surprise planned.
After six months of working overseas, I booked an early flight home — just in time for our wedding anniversary. I wanted to see his face when he opened the door and found me standing there instead of getting a call that I’d be back next month.

They had been waiting for me to leave the room — so they could take over it.
And I had spent weeks thinking about how much I missed him.
