A stray dog has become the coffee shop’s most dedicated daily visitor

It’s 8:30 in the morning in Argentina’s Jujuy province, and Diego is preparing to open Deligo Café alongside his girlfriend, Gabriela. In Ciudad Perico, the two have become well-known and appreciated in their neighborhood, welcoming locals each day with fresh coffee and homemade pastries.

Every visitor brightens their morning, but one customer stands out more than the rest — their very first regular of the day, Buddys.

Buddys, a black-and-white stray dog, seems to have an incredible sense of timing. Without fail, he shows up right when the café opens, patiently waiting by the door to take his place as Deligo Café’s most dedicated early customer, a routine Diego and Gabriela have come to love.

“We know Buddys comes around at a certain time, so we always expect him,” Diego shared with The Dodo.

Although most of the items on Deligo Café’s menu aren’t meant for dogs, Buddys has his own special deal with the owners. They keep food just for him in the back, and every now and then, he even gets a taste of what’s inside one of their sandwiches.

Even though he lives on the streets, Buddys is never left without food. Along with his group of stray companions — Capuchino, Chilindria, Malvavisco and Pichilina — he’s looked after not only by Deligo Café but also by the wider community.

“The neighbors all make sure they’re fed,” Diego explained.

Still, Buddys has a clear favorite. Nothing makes him happier than stopping by Deligo Café for his special treat, and his day doesn’t really begin until he does — something that brings Diego and Gabriela a lot of joy.

“Every time he comes by, it makes us really happy,” Diego said.

When Diego and Gabriela opened their café, they pictured a space where they could serve coffee and bring the neighborhood together. Buddys ended up adding something more to that dream than they ever imagined.

Now, with his kind presence lighting up their days, they wouldn’t have it any other way.

“We really care about him,” Diego said.
