This shelter cat keeps getting overlooked for adoption because of her unusual lips.

Last month, a sweet cat named Sausage Link arrived at Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center in New Jersey. From the moment she entered the shelter, staff and volunteers quickly noticed that she had a slightly unusual feature that set her apart.
As the shelter later shared, Sausage Link was born with a distinctive bottom lip that extends farther than her top lip. It’s a small difference, but one that makes her stand out right away.
When animal control first brought her in, they initially thought something might be wrong with her jaw, possibly an injury. However, after a veterinary checkup, it became clear that her appearance is simply due to a harmless congenital condition and doesn’t cause her any pain. Shawna Donahue, the shelter’s lifesaving coordinator, confirmed that there’s no discomfort at all associated with it.
As time passed, everyone at the shelter grew more and more attached to Sausage Link. Her personality quickly won people over. She’s gentle, affectionate, and calm, the kind of cat who makes a quiet but lasting impression. Staff members and volunteers alike have fallen for her sweet nature, describing her as incredibly loving.
Still, despite how wonderful she is, there’s a concern that potential adopters might pass her by simply because she doesn’t look like a typical cat. Some people might focus on her unusual lips and overlook everything else that makes her special. But those who know her best say she has an incredibly kind spirit and so much love to give, and she isn’t even aware that she looks any different.
At six years old, Sausage Link would be an ideal companion for someone looking for a relaxed and easygoing pet. She’s the kind of cat who would happily curl up beside you while you read or watch a movie, content just to be near her person. Donahue described her as a laid-back cat who would enjoy lounging on the couch and spending quiet time with her family.
Everyone who has cared for her hopes to see her find a home soon. Starting over at six isn’t always easy for a shelter cat, and she deserves the comfort and stability of a loving home rather than life in a kennel. Seeing animals like her get adopted brings real joy to the shelter staff.
More than anything, Sausage Link needs someone who will appreciate her unique look and love her for exactly who she is. She deserves a home where she’s reminded every day that she’s beautiful and cherished.
If you’re thinking about adopting Sausage Link, you can learn more about her through her adoption profile and find additional details on the shelter’s adoption page.
