Jennifer Lawrence’s “nakd gown” steals the spotlight at the Golden Globes

When Jennifer Lawrence arrived on the red carpet for the 2026 Golden Globes, she did more than just show up—she sparked a wave of conversation that had fans rushing to her defense.
Her bold “nakd dress”
Award ceremonies may hand out trophies, but for viewers at home, the real spectacle often happens on the red carpet.
Take last year’s Grammys, for instance, when a composed and fully dressed Kanye West watched as his 30-year-old girlfriend, Australian model Bianca Censori, removed a massive fur coat to reveal a daring, skin-tight, almost see-through outfit.
This year at the Golden Globes, all eyes were on Jennifer Lawrence after she stepped out in a sheer gown embroidered with delicate floral patterns—a look that quickly divided opinions online.
Lawrence was at the gala for a reason beyond fashion: she had earned a nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor for her raw, emotional role as Grace, a young mother in rural Montana grappling with postpartum depression and psychosis, in Die My Love.
Still, it was the actress’s fearless, headline-grabbing outfit that dominated the conversation.

The Oscar-winning actress stepped onto the red carpet in what many described as a modern “naked dress,” a look famously worn by Beyoncé at the 2015 Oscars. Jennifer Lawrence’s version, designed by Givenchy creative director Sarah Burton, featured delicate embroidery in shades of pink, ivory, and green. The floral details softened the sheer fabric, giving the gown a romantic, almost vintage quality that stood out immediately.
As expected, the dress sparked a wave of reactions—and not all of them positive.
“Maybe they should have a dress code or put the award shows on after the kids are in bed,” one critic wrote online.
But Lawrence’s supporters were quick to defend her.
“The only acceptable return of the naked dress. Classy and elegant,” one fan commented on X. Another simply added, “True. I actually like it.”
Many praised both the design and Lawrence’s confidence wearing it.
“When you think about it, we’re all naked under our clothes. She looks amazing, and the dress isn’t as revealing as people make it out to be. People complain too much about little things. Enjoying life to the fullest is the best part of free will,” one user noted.
“It is a naked dress, but the most beautiful one I’ve ever seen! And she has the body to pull it off. So stunning!” another fan wrote.
A longer comment offered detailed praise:
“This is the type of naked dress that is socially acceptable, aesthetically stunning, and imagination-inspiring. Jennifer Lawrence looks tastefully sexy and romantic at the same time in this sheer Givenchy gown. It reminds me of Halle Berry’s Elie Saab dress at the 2002 Oscars. The color palette is perfect for her. My favorite look so far.”
Lawrence herself appeared unfazed by the attention. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet, she joked about the revealing outfit in the context of attending after-parties.
“I’m going to hang. I’m naked, I might as well,” she said, laughing about how her children might react. “They would prefer I not be here.”
Her candidness extends beyond fashion. Before the Globes, she opened up about filming intimate scenes for her latest project, Die My Love, co-starring Robert Pattinson. She explained to People that performing such scenes with someone she didn’t know well actually made the process easier.
“It was actually easier that way, because Rob and I didn’t know each other,” she said. “Which is kind of better, you know? Imagine it! So yeah, doing it with a stranger is preferable.”
Lawrence also recalled how unpredictable the first day of filming was.
“It was these actors, and they’re attacking each other like tigers,” she recounted. “And we were like, ‘OK, yeah,’ and she was like, ‘Can you do it naked, yeah?’ [imitating director Lynne Ramsay’s Scottish accent]. We were like, ‘Oh, OK,’ and that was the first day on set.”
Her role in Die My Love clearly struck a personal chord, as she has been open about her own struggles with postpartum depression after the birth of her second child.
“I’m not an actor who brings the work home,” she told Vogue. “It’s part hormonal imbalance, but she’s also having an identity crisis—who am I as a mother, as a wife, as a sexual person? She’s plagued with this feeling that she’s disappearing. The only way for me to tap into this visceral emotion was to draw on my own experiences.”
With a striking dress and commanding presence, Jennifer Lawrence has made the 2026 awards season impossible to ignore. At 35, she is stepping into an exciting new phase in both her career and personal life. Her upcoming projects include The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (2026), where she reprises her role as Katniss Everdeen, and Martin Scorsese’s chilling new horror film What Happens at Night, co-starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
