They Tried to Cut My Adopted Son Out of My Life — So I Left Everything to Him Instead

I’m 78 years old. I raised my three biological children alone, and years later, I adopted Brandon. As time went on, my biological children drifted into their own busy lives, but Brandon never did. He stayed close. He checked on me often, helped around the house, and made sure I never felt alone.

For the longest time, I planned to divide my estate equally among all four of my children. In my heart, there has never been a difference between them. Brandon was just as much my child as the others.

But a few weeks ago, everything changed.

My oldest daughter came over with a stack of papers — legal documents that would give my three biological children full power of attorney over me. Brandon wasn’t included at all.

She said I was becoming forgetful, that I was “getting eccentric” in my old age, and that these papers would “protect” me. She explained that power of attorney would allow them to make decisions on my behalf — about my finances, my medical choices, my entire life — and she pressured me to sign immediately.

Then she said something that stunned me: she claimed Brandon was drowning in debt and implied he had “other problems” I didn’t know about.

I didn’t argue with her. I simply listened, but inside, something felt wrong. Later that evening, I asked Brandon about what she said. He was visibly shaken by the accusation and swore every word was a lie. He told me he was financially stable and doing well.

I believed him.

And that night, after sitting alone and thinking for hours, I realized what my biological children had attempted to do. They wanted full control — control over my money, my choices, my future — and they wanted Brandon completely pushed aside.

Their intentions were clearer than ever.

I decided I needed to protect my legacy, not just divide it.

So instead of splitting my estate the way I originally planned, I changed my will.

I left everything to Brandon.

The following week, all three of my biological children called — suddenly apologetic, suddenly remorseful, suddenly concerned about my “well-being.” They begged me to reconsider, but the damage was already done.

Their actions spoke louder than their apologies.

So now I’m left wondering…
Did I make the wrong choice?

Or did I finally see the truth clearly, and make the only choice that protected the child who truly protected me?
