Donald Trump has never been known for holding back when speaking publicly, but his late-night Thanksgiving message to Americans may have surprised even some of his most loyal supporters.

After a full day of renewed national argument about immigration in the U.S. — sparked by the shooting of two National Guard service members in Washington, D.C., earlier this week — Trump issued a forceful, at times aggressive message in which he, among other inflammatory remarks, referred to Governor Tim Walz using an insulting, ableist slur and demanded an indefinite halt to all immigration from what he described as “Third World Countries.”

The Truth Social post began with what looked like a standard holiday greeting to the American public, but it quickly shifted into a lengthy tirade centered on immigration, crime, and attacking his political adversaries.

Trump had already reacted angrily earlier in the week after two National Guard members were shot near the White House. The alleged gunman — now hospitalized after being shot multiple times by authorities — was identified as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national who arrived in the U.S. in September 2021.

In his Thanksgiving message on Truth Social, Trump vowed to “permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover, terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions.”

He also directed hostility toward political opponents, writing: “The deeply derogatory, utterly incompetent Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, accomplishes nothing, whether because of fear, lack of ability, or both, while the worst member of Congress in our entire Country, Ilhan Omar — always dressed in her traditional hijab, and who I believe may have come to the U.S.A. through improper means, considering the circumstances around her family history — does nothing but angrily criticize our Country, its Constitution, and complain endlessly about how she is treated, even though the place she originally came from is decadent, regressive, and plagued by crime.”

Donald Trump has never been one to soften his words when addressing the public, but his late-night Thanksgiving message may have pushed boundaries even among those who typically support his rhetoric.

After a day dominated by discussions about immigration and national security — all tied to the incident involving the two National Guard members in Washington, D.C. — Trump delivered an uncompromising, even hostile statement in which he described Governor Tim Walz with a derogatory ableist insult and demanded a permanent end to immigration from what he labeled “all Third World Countries.”

The post on Truth Social began like a typical holiday greeting, but it rapidly descended into an extensive rant about immigration, rising crime, and attacks on political rivals.

Trump’s anger had been on full display earlier in the week after the shooting near the White House. The suspect — hospitalized after being shot four times by law enforcement — was identified as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national who entered the U.S. in September 2021.

In his Thanksgiving Truth Social message, Trump declared that he would “permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover, terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions.”

He continued by targeting opponents, writing: “The severely insulting description I used earlier for Governor Tim Walz stands, since he accomplishes nothing, whether out of fear, incompetence, or both, and meanwhile the worst member of Congress, Ilhan Omar — forever wrapped in her hijab and who I believe may have entered the U.S. through questionable means — spends all her time bitterly attacking our Country, its Constitution, and insisting she is treated unfairly, despite coming from a nation that is corrupt, backward, and overwhelmed with crime.”

Walz responded on X by reposting Trump’s message with the caption: “Release the MRI results,” referencing the former president’s recently reported medical scan.

Trump concluded his message by declaring: “Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation. Other than that, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL, except those that hate, steal, murder, and destroy everything that America stands for — You won’t be here for long!”

Despite Trump’s assertion that the suspect in the National Guard shooting — Lakanwal — was a direct result of the Biden administration’s immigration approach, CNN reported that Lakanwal had actually applied for asylum in 2024 and was granted approval by the Trump administration in April 2025.

When a journalist pointed out that federal agencies insisted Afghan arrivals had undergone thorough vetting, Trump responded by calling the reporter “stupid,” sidestepping the question of whether the asylum approval occurred under his leadership.
