What began as a dream honeymoon in the misty hills of Shillong turned into one of India’s most shocking crimes. Newlyweds Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam traveled to Meghalaya on May 20 for a romantic getaway, but their trip concealed a sinister plot that would end with Raja dead and Sonam at the center of a nationwide murder investigation.
After the couple went missing, Raja’s body was discovered in a remote gorge, showing signs of a struggle and foul play. Initial suspicion fell on Raj Kushwaha, reportedly Sonam’s lover, but the investigation revealed a more chilling reality: Sonam had masterminded the murder, manipulating Raj and recruiting three others to carry out the plan.
Throughout the honeymoon, Sonam maintained the facade of a devoted wife while coordinating her husband’s death through constant messages and updates to her co-conspirators. Raja was ambushed, pushed into a deep gorge, and left to die, while Sonam returned to normalcy, planning her next move with a third man.
Police uncovered damning evidence through cell phone records, tracking hundreds of messages and incriminating voice notes. Sonam was arrested on June 8 and confessed to orchestrating the crime, though the full extent of her involvement is still under investigation. Her co-conspirators, including Raj, were also arrested and face multiple charges.
The case has shocked India, exposing a chilling truth: love can hide manipulation, betrayal, and murder. What was supposed to be a celebration of union and joy became a meticulously planned execution, leaving friends, family, and the nation grappling with the devastating betrayal of trust.
