A quiet southwest Chicago neighborhood was shaken to its core when police discovered six people — including two children — dead in a modest brick home, described by officers as a “sea of blood.” The grisly scene was uncovered after a concerned relative reported the family missing.
Among the victims were a mother, father, two children, and two extended family members. The sole survivor, 39-year-old Luis Romero, was found outside the house, disoriented and covered in blood. Authorities say he had been away briefly before returning to the scene of the massacre.
Neighbors describe the family as humble, hardworking, and deeply devoted, with the children attending a nearby elementary school. “They were just a normal family,” said neighbor Maria Hernandez. “We’d see the kids riding bikes in the evening, laughing. I can’t believe they’re gone.”
