Grammy-Nominated Music Producer Tay Keith, 29, Was Found Dead Inside a Nashville Apartment — Police Respond with a Brief 5-Word Statement

A Grammy-nominated music producer’s final post on social media, a welfare check that went unanswered, and a series of emotional messages shared by a close friend have left fans searching for clarity and answers.
As tributes from artists, friends, and supporters continue to flood social media, a short statement released by Nashville authorities has become one of the most discussed aspects of the case.
Brytavious Chambers, known professionally as Tay Keith, was discovered deceased inside his Nashville, Tennessee apartment on Thursday afternoon, June 18.
The acclaimed producer, whose work helped shape some of the biggest hip-hop records of the past decade, was only 29 years old at the time of his death. While officials have confirmed that Chambers has passed away, many questions surrounding the circumstances remain unanswered.
A Career Defined by Success
Chambers rose to prominence as one of the most influential producers in contemporary hip-hop after contributing to Travis Scott’s chart-topping 2018 hit, “Sicko Mode.”
The song earned him a Grammy nomination while he was still enrolled as a student at Middle Tennessee State University.
Over the years, his catalog expanded significantly, leading to collaborations with some of the industry’s biggest names, including Cardi B, Eminem, Beyoncé, Drake, and numerous other major recording artists.
In 2025, Forbes recognized Chambers and Cambrian Strong on its prestigious 30 Under 30 Music list for their work with the Drumatized record label.
Forbes also highlighted another major accomplishment, noting that Chambers received Producer of the Year honors at the 2024 BMI Awards.
Originally from South Memphis, Chambers later spent time living in East Memphis and Orange Mound before building a career that reached audiences across the globe.
Despite achieving extraordinary success at a young age, he remained committed to completing his education.
Speaking through Middle Tennessee State University, Chambers once explained his determination to finish college.
“There wouldn’t be any reason for me to attend college if I wasn’t planning to complete it. I could have devoted all of my energy to music instead,” he said.
He added that by the final week of his college career, he had already produced his first No. 1 record, making it clear that leaving school early would have served little purpose.
In December 2018, Chambers graduated with degrees in Integrated Studies and Media Management.
His Last Instagram Update
Following news of his death, many fans revisited Chambers’ most recent Instagram post.
The update, shared on May 7, reflected the passion that helped define his career: creating music for some of the industry’s biggest stars.
In the post, Chambers promoted Chris Brown’s track “Call Your Name,” featuring Sexyy Red and GloRilla.
Unknowingly, the post would become his final message shared on the platform.
Police Release Brief Statement
According to reports from WSMV, Metro Nashville Police stated that Chambers was found inside his apartment on Martin Street after officers conducted a welfare check.
The department later provided additional information through a statement posted on X.
Among the details released, one particular sentence quickly drew widespread attention.
The statement read: “No foul play is suspected.”
Authorities further explained that Chambers’ death has not yet been officially classified and remains under investigation pending autopsy results.
Police also confirmed that an official cause of death has not yet been determined.
Tributes Continue to Pour In
One of the most emotional public reactions came from fellow Memphis rapper BlocBoy JB.
Through his Instagram Stories, he shared an older photograph showing himself and Chambers together during their younger years.
Written across the image was a heartfelt message expressing his grief:
“Damn Cuz You Just Hurt Me Bad.”
Later, BlocBoy JB shared another post featuring what appeared to be a recent phone call log showing a contact saved under the name “Tay keith.”
The screenshot served as a painful reminder of a friendship that had extended far beyond music, highlighting the deep personal loss felt by those who knew Chambers best.
As fans, friends, and fellow artists continue mourning his passing, many are remembering Tay Keith not only for the records he helped create, but also for the impact he made on the people around him and the legacy he leaves behind in the music industry.
