Neighbor Reveals Disturbing New Details in Alleged Kidnapping Linked to Nancy Guthrie

Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, has vanished under circumstances authorities are now treating as criminal. Investigators say blood was discovered inside her home, and a nearby resident has come forward with unsettling details as police pursue what they believe may be a kidnapping.
Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie, has not been seen since Saturday, January 31.
Search-and-rescue crews have spent days combing the area surrounding her residence in Catalina Foothills, just north of Tucson, but so far their efforts have not led to her whereabouts. On Monday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated publicly that he believes Nancy’s disappearance involved a crime.
“At this point, investigators believe she was taken from her home against her will, possibly during the night,” Nanos said. “Being taken against her will includes the possibility of kidnapping or abduction.”
He added that the situation does not suggest a voluntary departure. “We have an 84-year-old woman who went to bed Saturday night and by Sunday morning, she was gone. We do not believe she walked out of that home on her own.”
Law enforcement officials are currently reviewing home surveillance footage from the surrounding neighborhood. They have also collected what has been described as biological DNA-type evidence from the scene.
Blood found inside Nancy Guthrie’s home
Nanos emphasized that Nancy was mentally sharp and fully aware, which deepens investigators’ concern. “She’s really as sharp as a tack,” he told People. “That makes this even more troubling. You have someone who knows what’s going on, and we believe someone entered her home and removed her without consent. It was against her will.”
Early Tuesday, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing law enforcement sources, that blood was found inside Nancy Guthrie’s home. The same sources indicated there were signs suggesting forced entry. Authorities have not confirmed whose blood was discovered.
The Sheriff’s Department is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for photos, video footage, or information that leads to the arrest of whoever is responsible for the disappearance.
“We are using every tool available to us to try to locate her,” Nanos said. “We will continue to pursue every lead.”
While official details remain limited, a neighbor has shared observations that add to the mystery. Morgan Brown, who lives about a quarter mile away, spoke about what he described as unusual activity near the home.
Neighbor shares chilling observations
In an interview with Us Weekly, Brown said he noticed “a lot of dark vans with blacked-out windows” parked near Nancy Guthrie’s residence.
Residents in the area have been asked by authorities to review footage from their Ring cameras and report anything unusual.
Describing the neighborhood, Brown explained that the terrain surrounding the homes is rugged and open. “If you step just a couple feet off the road, you’re basically in thick desert,” he said. “It’s not gated at all. You walk off the street and you’re immediately in scrub, cactus, mesquite trees, and rocks.”
Initially, there was speculation that Nancy may have wandered into the desert. Brown said that theory never made sense. “She walks with a cane,” he noted. “I can’t imagine why she would do that, especially in that terrain.”
Brown also described the neighborhood as quiet and uneventful. “There are a lot of retirees and people who’ve lived here a long time. You don’t hear about strange things happening around here.”
Authorities have echoed that Nancy was unlikely to have left on her own, noting she “couldn’t walk 50 yards by herself.”
Brown said the connection to Savannah Guthrie crossed his mind almost immediately. “I can’t imagine what someone would want with an 84-year-old woman,” he said. “The only thing that comes to mind is that maybe they were trying to get to Savannah somehow, politically or otherwise. It’s just horrible news.”
Thoughts and prayers remain with the Guthrie family as the investigation continues.
