Man Uses 11 Shipping Containers to Build His 2,500-Square-Foot Dream Home—And the Inside Is Absolutely Stunning

For years, Will Breaux carried a vision in his mind that refused to fade. He wasn’t just dreaming of owning a house—he was dreaming of creating one. Something bold. Something different. Something that felt entirely his.
Breaux, a designer by trade, eventually turned that vision into reality on McGowen Street in Houston, where an extraordinary three-story home now stands—built entirely from shipping containers.
Yes, shipping containers.
Using 11 industrial containers, Breaux constructed a 2,500-square-foot residence complete with modern interiors, expansive living spaces, and a rooftop deck that crowns the structure. From the outside, the house is striking and unconventional. Step inside, and it’s almost impossible to believe what the walls are made of.
The idea wasn’t born overnight. Breaux had been dreaming about building his own home since the early 2000s, but time and again, designers failed to bring his ideas to life. No one seemed able—or willing—to fully understand what he envisioned.
So he made a bold decision.
He would design it himself.
“I started looking at projects that were being built that I liked,” Breaux later wrote on his blog. Around 2011, after parting ways with a design team that didn’t meet his expectations, he took full control of the project and began creating the plans on his own.
What drew him to shipping containers wasn’t just their uniqueness—it was their practicality. Containers are incredibly strong, engineered to withstand extreme conditions at sea. They’re resistant to hurricanes, highly durable, and even fire-resistant. For Breaux, they offered the perfect combination of form and function.
Despite having no formal background in construction, he immersed himself in learning everything he could about container architecture. He studied structural principles, researched materials, and eventually created a detailed 3D model of his dream home.
The process was long and demanding, requiring countless hours of labor, problem-solving, and persistence. But step by step, the vision became real.
Today, Breaux’s home is fully furnished, modern, and warm—proof that unconventional ideas can lead to extraordinary results. What began as a personal challenge turned into a stunning example of creativity, resilience, and self-belief.
Eleven shipping containers. Three stories. One dream realized.
And from the inside, it looks nothing short of amazing.
