Update on the $2,000 Stimulus Checks: Will Trump’s Payment Arrive Before 2025 Ends?

Last month, President Donald Trump revealed his intention to send out $2,000 stimulus checks, funded through dividend-style payouts connected to tariff revenue. He also pushed Senate Republicans to consider putting part of that money into Americans’ health savings accounts.

On November 9, Trump wrote on social media that his tariff strategy would benefit working-class families, calling anyone who opposed it “FOOLS!” A few days later, he took to Truth Social and declared:

“We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price. 401k’s are Highest EVER.”

Throughout 2025, Trump has floated several ideas resembling stimulus or rebate programs. At one point, he pitched the idea of $5,000 “DOGE dividends,” a proposal to return part of the 20 percent savings identified by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is overseen by Elon Musk. But he never released official details, and the concept has not progressed.

At the same time, California Representative Ro Khanna suggested issuing $2,000 payments to Americans earning less than $100,000, saying the financial help could counterbalance the higher prices caused by Trump’s tariffs.

Who Would Receive the Money?

According to Trump’s comments on November 10, the payments would not go to people with higher incomes.

“We’re going to issue a dividend to our middle income people and lower income people of about $2,000,” he said. “And we’re going to use the remaining tariffs to lower our debt.”

What Still Needs to Happen

Congress must pass a bill before any stimulus checks can be sent out. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent made it clear that nothing is finalized, especially while the government remains shut down. The shutdown had reached its 41st day when he spoke.

“We don’t have a formal proposal,” Bessent said. “We’re not proposing it to the Senate right now, no. The president is posting about it, but again, we have got to get the government reopened before we do this. We are not going to negotiate with the Democrats until they reopen the government. It’s very simple.”

On Sunday night, senators reached a tentative deal that could potentially end the shutdown, but no official stimulus plan has been introduced.

What Is DOGE?

The Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE, is a temporary agency created by Trump and headed by Elon Musk. Its goal is to cut government spending, simplify federal regulations, and upgrade outdated government technology.

Bottom Line

Right now, there are no official plans for a fourth stimulus check in 2025. Any version of the proposal would still need to move through Congress before Americans could receive payments.
