Woman colors her Great Pyrenees bright red to protect him from being stolen

Posted on November 9, 2025 By admin

Many dog owners live with the constant worry that their beloved pets could be stolen. Some breeds, especially those that are rare or valuable, are frequent targets for dognappers who see them as easy money.

One woman, however, came up with a very unusual way to protect her dog from being taken. Her method quickly drew widespread attention and sparked heated debate online. While some people applauded her creativity and determination to keep her pet safe, others questioned whether her approach was truly fair or necessary.

The woman, Chloe, is the proud owner of a two-year-old Great Pyrenees named Dandy. What makes Dandy stand out from the rest isn’t just his size or breed—it’s his striking appearance. His fur is a vivid shade of red, the result of pet-safe dye that Chloe carefully applied herself.

Chloe’s choice to dye Dandy’s fur red quickly stirred a wide range of reactions on TikTok. Countless users flooded the comments section with mixed opinions—some expressing concern for the dog’s well-being and writing things like “poor dog,” questioning whether the dye was safe, while others couldn’t help but adore his one-of-a-kind appearance, even comparing him to Clifford the Big Red Dog.

In response to the growing attention, Chloe reassured her followers that she uses only vegan, pet-safe dye products, specifically mentioning the Opawz brand. In several follow-up videos, she took the time to explain her reasons behind Dandy’s bold transformation and to make it clear that his health and safety always come first.

She explained that one of her main reasons for dyeing Dandy was to “keep him from getting stolen,” since Great Pyrenees dogs are considered a “rare breed in [her] area.”

Chloe added that Dandy actually seems to enjoy his bright new look, noting that he “loves people and kids,” and that the red color makes him appear “more approachable” to others.

She also shared that another goal was to “educate others on safe pet dye practices.” In several of her videos, she demonstrates step-by-step how pet owners can safely dye their own dogs using products that won’t harm their pets.

Dandy’s TikTok videos, which have gathered an impressive 10 million likes and more than 318,000 followers, continue to spark widespread discussion and disagreement.

Critics have been vocal about questioning Chloe’s true motives, arguing that dyeing Dandy’s fur likely wouldn’t do much to discourage potential dognappers. Instead, they suggest that the unusual look might simply be a tactic to attract attention and gain popularity on social media.

Supporters, on the other hand, have emphasized that Dandy appears to be a joyful, healthy, and well-loved dog. They note that he has no awareness of his color and that his owner has every right to dye his fur if she chooses, provided it’s done safely and humanely.

Although Dandy’s TikTok account gained significant attention, it hasn’t been active since February. Over on Instagram, the latest update came in July, showing Dandy with his natural white fur once again, the red dye completely faded away.

Chloe mentioned that Dandy “needs a touch-up” and added that he would be “red again soon,” leaving it uncertain what his current fur color looks like.

However, many commenters encouraged her not to reapply the dye, saying they preferred seeing Dandy in his natural, “true colors.”
