The New York Police Department is mourning the heartbreaking loss of one of their own after Detective Alicia Stone tragically passed away just a week after undergoing a controversial cosmetic procedure in Colombia.
According to the New York Post, Stone, a devoted mother of three, had traveled to the South American country to receive a Brazilian butt lift and liposuction.
Law enforcement sources reported that she was found unresponsive in her hotel room around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, and was immediately rushed to Fundación Valle del Lili Hospital in Cali. Despite efforts to save her, Detective Stone was pronounced dead just one hour after arriving.
Reports confirm that the 13-year NYPD veteran, who served with the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau, had recently undergone the procedures before returning to her hotel to recover. Her cause of death has been listed as “unspecified cardiac arrest,” though her grieving husband, Michael Stone, is calling for an investigation to uncover what truly happened.
Sources have revealed that Alicia had been prescribed anticoagulants and pain medication as part of her post-surgery treatment plan. Michael told the Daily News that he intends to request a full autopsy to determine the exact cause of his wife’s sudden and unexpected death.
“The doctor who called me from Colombia just told me my wife had passed away,” Michael said. “She didn’t have any information to give me when I asked what happened… something just doesn’t add up.”
He continued, “To get that call on Thursday and be told she was gone—it’s shocking and devastating. I don’t have the facts, and that’s what I need. I need to know exactly what happened.”
Michael added that Alicia had seemed “perfectly fine” before the procedure and had spoken with relatives just the day before her death, assuring them she was feeling well.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, a Brazilian Butt Lift—formally known as a gluteal fat transfer—involves removing fat from one part of the body and injecting it into the buttocks to enhance size and shape. However, experts have warned that rare but serious complications, such as a fat embolus caused by fat entering the bloodstream, can occur and may lead to sudden death.
Detective Alicia Stone served the NYPD honorably for 13 years, dedicating herself to justice and integrity.
May she rest in peace.
