A poor boy working at a warehouse near a shuttered bike shop noticed a scruffy dog visiting the spot every single day. Curious about where the dog was headed, he decided to follow it one day and uncovered a heartbreaking secret.
Chris, an 18-year-old experienced market worker, was no stranger to street animals. But Ollie, a Shiba Inu, was different. The dog was friendly, well-behaved, and too clean and groomed to be a stray.
The first time Chris saw Ollie, the dog was standing in front of the closed bike shop, staring at the large glass windows. Some coworkers told him that Ollie belonged to the shop owner, who had mysteriously stopped showing up for weeks.
Chris felt sad whenever he saw the lonely dog. He loved dogs and was upset that someone could just abandon their pet and disappear. One day, before lunch, he gently patted Ollie’s head and asked, “Hey Ollie… want a sandwich?”
From then on, Ollie would run excitedly to Chris at lunchtime, wagging his tail when he saw the lunchbox. But instead of eating the food there, the dog would grab it and run off with it clutched in his mouth.
Watching Ollie dash away with the food and return to the same spot all day made Chris worried and puzzled. At first, he thought maybe Ollie had puppies to feed somewhere. But since Ollie was male, that theory didn’t add up.
Day by day, Chris noticed Ollie’s energy fading. The dog’s shiny coat was dulling, and he seemed troubled by something. Chris suspected Ollie might be suffering from abandonment, but he couldn’t quite tell why.
One lunchtime, Chris watched Ollie eagerly take a sandwich, only to sprint off without eating it. Puzzled, Chris called after him, “Ollie, where are you going?” But Ollie didn’t slow down or look back, vanishing into the marketplace.
Frustrated but curious, Chris returned to work, his mind racing to figure out where Ollie was taking the food.
After his shift, Chris found Ollie again outside the bike shop, staring sadly at the glass. The dog whimpered softly when Chris approached, and Chris’s heart broke. Over the past few days, he’d grown attached to Ollie, who wasn’t just any dog—he was a loyal friend.
Chris knelt beside Ollie, softly promising, “You’re not alone, buddy. I’m here for you.” Determined to help, Chris decided to take Ollie home.
However, Chris shared a rented apartment with his girlfriend Mila, who disliked dogs. Knowing this would cause conflict, Chris hesitated but couldn’t leave Ollie on the streets.
That evening, he quietly gave Ollie a cookie and attached a leash, calming the frightened dog before heading home.
Chris’s heart pounded as he anticipated Mila’s reaction. Sure enough, Mila was furious upon seeing Ollie.
“What is that dog doing here?” she demanded, stepping back in disgust. She insisted Chris remove Ollie immediately.
Chris pleaded, explaining Ollie had no one and needed a home. He asked Mila to give the dog a chance, showing her Ollie’s obedient tricks, but Mila was stubborn and annoyed.
She warned Chris about the mess, the shedding, and her allergies, making it clear Ollie wasn’t welcome in their bedroom or anywhere near her.
Though reluctant, Mila finally agreed to keep Ollie—on strict conditions.
That night, Chris slept in the kitchen with Ollie curled beside him, feeling happy but anxious about Mila’s attitude.
The next morning, Chris panicked when Ollie was nowhere to be found. Searching everywhere, he feared the dog had run away or Mila had taken him out.
When Chris confronted Mila, she denied any involvement and claimed she hadn’t seen Ollie.
Suddenly, Mila screamed—Ollie had stolen a steak she’d left out to thaw. She called the dog a thief and mocked Chris’s trust in him.
Chris was crushed and doubted whether bringing Ollie home was the right choice.
At work, Chris ignored Ollie’s friendly advances, still upset over the theft.
Later, Chris saw Ollie outside the bike shop again. Someone tossed Ollie a stale loaf of bread, which he eagerly took and ran off without eating.
Determined to solve the mystery, Chris followed Ollie for over two hours, until the dog stopped at an isolated, rundown house on the town’s outskirts.
Ollie squeezed under a fence and dug a hole beneath the locked door, placing the bread inside.
Chris peeked through a window and was shocked to see a large German Shepherd trapped inside, eating the bread.
Realizing Ollie had been secretly feeding his trapped friend, Chris called the police.
When officers arrived and forced entry, they found the German Shepherd weak and emaciated, clearly neglected.
Chris was moved to tears by the sight and wondered where the owner had gone and why the dog was left locked up and abandoned.
