Jon Bon Jovi Launches His Third Community Restaurant for College Students in Need
Jon Bon Jovi isn’t only a rock star—he’s also a compassionate individual dedicated to making a difference. His unwavering commitment has led to the opening of three community restaurants that serve free meals to those in need. After previously sharing the stories behind his first two ventures, the Bon Jovi Foundation is once again making an impact worldwide. Here’s an update on their latest achievement.
The Foundation’s Beginnings
Established in 2000, the JBJ Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to helping underprivileged individuals both in the United States and internationally, even reaching as far as Africa. One of its key initiatives, JBJ Soul Kitchen, embodies this mission. So far, the program has provided over 155,000 meals—54% of which were earned through an hour of volunteering, while the rest were funded by generous donations. At its heart, the kitchen welcomes everyone, especially those who cannot afford a meal, by offering a three-course dinner in exchange for an hour of service.
A Fresh Start at Rutgers University
The JBJ Soul Kitchen’s two established locations in Red Bank and Toms River, New Jersey, have become community hubs known for their fresh, hot three-course meals and a spirit of goodwill. Now, a third restaurant has opened at Rutgers University through a collaboration between the university and the JBJ Foundation. “There are college students going hungry,” Bon Jovi acknowledged, shedding light on the struggles many young adults face. This new venue ensures that countless students can enjoy a warm, nutritious meal without the burden of cost.
Impact Through 2022
In the past year alone, JBJ Soul Kitchen served 24,000 meals through various partnerships, accumulated 15,000 volunteer hours, and ensured that 58% of their meals reached those truly in need. The foundation is currently raising funds to launch a winter “hope center.” Their mission remains clear: to empower individuals impacted by hunger and homelessness by providing food, affordable housing, and support services like job training programs.
Recognition and New Collaborations
The dedication of JBJ Soul Kitchen has garnered numerous accolades and partnerships, including Trip Advisor’s Travelers’ Choice Award for 2022 and a grant from Kohl’s Cares. With assistance from Naloxone Administration, the team has even become certified trainers. Fundraising efforts have further bolstered their resources, all aimed at breaking the cycle of hunger, poverty, and homelessness—one “Soul” at a time—and creating a space where strangers become family.
