Concerned by her son Edduin’s constant tiredness and restlessness, Alicia decided to install a baby monitor in his room after hearing odd, unexplained noises.
One afternoon, following his nap, she went to check on him and heard a faint giggling sound as she neared his room. Heart pounding, she threw the door open, only to find Edduin quietly staring up from his crib in an otherwise empty, eerily silent room.
She searched every nook—the bathroom, the closet, even under the bed—but found no one. Initially, she tried to dismiss the sounds as a side effect of her work stress, yet the strange noises persisted day after day.
Determined to ease her worries, Alicia set up a Wi-Fi baby monitor in Edduin’s room. A few days later, after monitoring the room for about ten minutes, she noticed unexpected movement on the screen along with a subtle smile on her son’s face.
Terrified that someone might be in his room, she rushed over and flung the door open. Her hands trembled as she discovered her baby wasn’t alone. To her relief, the “intruder” turned out to be a small, scruffy dog—looking dirty and weak—circling Edduin’s crib and making a soft, almost inaudible sound.
It soon became clear: Alicia and her late husband John had once had a pet dog named Doblo, and after his passing, they had converted his old playroom into a nursery for Edduin. In the midst of all the chaos following John’s departure and Edduin’s birth, Alicia had simply forgotten to close the dog door. That oversight allowed the stray dog to wander in, play with Edduin, and inadvertently disrupt his sleep.
Feeling sorry for the little dog and relieved that her son wasn’t in any danger, Alicia decided to adopt him. Naming him Casper, she soon discovered that Casper’s presence brought unexpected comfort—Edduin now cried less, slept better, and seemed generally happier.
