Many people look forward to a hotel stay as a fun escape, but a hotel front desk worker advises that there are some pitfalls to avoid. In a TikTok video, a woman working at the front desk explains eight things you should never do during your hotel visit—advice aimed at ensuring you have the best experience possible.
She begins by warning against arriving on the wrong day: don’t show up a day late, because if you do, your reservation is marked as a no-show and your room will be lost. Next, she cautions against booking through third-party sites. According to her, if you make a reservation this way, any changes become difficult or impossible since the hotel can’t modify those bookings.
She also stresses the importance of double-checking your dates. If you book the wrong dates, it’s on you—don’t blame an employee when you’ve received a confirmation email that you should have reviewed. Additionally, she advises not to repeatedly ask about availability; if the system shows no vacancies, asking again won’t change anything.
The worker further advises against bringing unsupervised children to events at the hotel, especially if they might cause damage while you’re otherwise occupied. She also requests that if you encounter any issues during your stay, don’t leave without giving the hotel a chance to address your concerns—leaving a negative review without letting them fix the problem isn’t fair.
Before booking, make sure to research the hotel’s amenities so you know what to expect. Lastly, she reminds guests to follow the cancellation policy. Don’t assume that policies don’t apply to you—if you cancel on the day of your reservation, you’ll be charged a late cancellation fee.
