Adrian was spending a steamy evening with his mistress when his wife unexpectedly returned, turning the night on its head. A seemingly ordinary pizza box ended up revealing the secret that would shatter his double life.
Outside, the city lights glimmered as Adrian watched Claire pack her suitcase.
“Another business trip?” he sighed.
“The trips, meetings, and deadlines are all part of the job,” Claire replied as she zipped up her bag.
With a quick kiss, she left.
At the airport, after checking in, Claire felt a pang of disappointment when she saw no messages from Adrian—especially since she had planned to share her pregnancy news. Back home, Adrian muttered in relief, “Finally, she’s gone!” and rang up his mistress.
“I’ll grab some roses—they know what turns you on!” Vanessa promised.
“Come over soon; I can’t wait!” Adrian replied excitedly.
When Vanessa arrived, they shared a passionate kiss, with Vanessa teasing him about loving both her kisses and the scent of Claire’s perfume. Just as they were about to get intimate, a knock at the door interrupted them.
Adrian opened the door expecting a delivery, only to find Claire.
“Hey, honey!” she greeted.
“Claire, you’re back? I thought you were headed to Hong Kong,” Adrian stammered.
“My flight got canceled, so I have to wait three days for the next one!” she explained.
“Why didn’t you call? I could’ve picked you up,” he added.
“Never mind—I stopped by a bookshop on the way, and my phone died. Now I’m home,” Claire said.
Before she could notice anything amiss, Adrian quickly slipped Vanessa’s lingerie away, desperate to hide any evidence of his betrayal. He hugged Claire tightly, exclaiming that he’d missed her, though she sensed something was off.
“You’re acting strange, Addy. It’s only been three hours,” she noted, disappointed by the lack of his texts.
“I left my phone charging and forgot,” he mumbled, adding that he planned to video call her later.
As Claire mentioned planning dinner and excused herself to use the restroom, she suddenly heard a noise from the bedroom. “I heard something—who’s in there?” she asked, glancing towards the room.
“No one, it’s just the open windows,” Adrian insisted.
But when Claire checked, she found nothing—though she remembered hearing what sounded like a cough.
Growing increasingly uneasy, Claire admitted, “I’m worried we’re drifting apart.”
“Sweetheart, I love you. There’s nothing to worry about. Why don’t you take a shower? You must be tired,” Adrian coaxed.
After Claire closed the bathroom door, Adrian exhaled in relief. Quietly, he searched for Vanessa and found her hiding under the bed. “Leave before she comes out,” he whispered.
While Claire showered, Adrian helped Vanessa slip out. Just as they reached the door, a pizza delivery guy arrived, his face hidden by a helmet.
“Your pizza, sir! Sorry for the delay,” the man announced.
“I don’t want your pizza!” Adrian hissed, quickly paying him off and dismissing him—even as Claire called out from behind, asking if he had ordered food.
Later, Adrian blurted, “I love you, so I love everything you love,” while Claire grew suspicious when she noticed he had ordered pizza. Taking a bite, she immediately rushed to the sink, coughing, “What’s in this pizza? Did you order it extra spicy?”
“You said you liked a bit of heat—thought we could try a Tabasco pizza tonight,” Adrian apologized.
“A bit of heat? This is like a volcano in my mouth!” Claire exclaimed, half-amused at the thought of him being a silly but adorable dad.
“Sorry, sweet pea. Let’s order something else,” he suggested.
“No apologies until you try a bite,” she teased. Adrian reluctantly took a bite, pretending to enjoy it, even as he secretly spat it out when she wasn’t looking.
The next day, while dining at a restaurant, Claire shared her concerns with a friend. Unable to sleep, she wondered aloud if Adrian was even ready for fatherhood.
“I think something’s bothering him,” Claire confided.
“Maybe you’re overthinking—perhaps he just misses you during those business trips,” her friend suggested.
Unbeknownst to Claire, that friend was Vanessa, Adrian’s mistress. Later, Vanessa even ordered a peculiar half-regular, half-double-Tabasco pizza, which shocked Claire. As she connected the dots—the messy bedroom, the bizarre pizza, and Vanessa’s fondness for the same spicy pie—her heart sank. The life growing inside her belonged to both her and Adrian, and the betrayal cut deep.
That evening, Claire returned home with her suitcase and confronted Adrian, asking, “Who were you talking to for so long?”
“No one… just a friend,” he lied, eyeing her luggage.
“Leaving again?” she pressed.
“Got a last-minute work trip to Cairo,” Claire explained.
“You just got back yesterday! Why are we even living together?” Adrian snapped.
“What do you mean, Addy? I’m doing this for us!” Claire retorted.
Finally, Adrian declared, “I’m done. Let’s just get a divorce!”
“What? Why?” she cried.
“You’re hardly home. It’s been three years, and you haven’t given me a child!” he accused.
Tearfully, Claire defended herself, “I work hard for us, and we agreed to wait two years before trying.”
Adrian then proposed splitting their property and a divorce, and though Claire suggested waiting until after her business trip, Adrian warned, “You have only a week to decide once you’re back.”
Soon after, Adrian called Vanessa over. When she arrived and learned of the situation, she was shocked.
“What are you going to do about money?” she scolded.
“Don’t worry, the prenup means she’ll have to split the property,” Adrian assured her.
Vanessa, with a sly smile, fretted about Claire finding out about their affair, while Adrian retorted, “Where was your loyalty when you shared the bed with me during Claire’s business trip?”
Vanessa then brushed aside the comment, saying, “I always got the best things in life. Let’s just enjoy the day.”
While Adrian and Vanessa resumed their intimacy, thinking Claire was en route to Cairo, Claire was actually waiting at a pizza restaurant just a few streets away. There, she approached the pizza delivery guy, asking if he had seen Adrian with his mistress—he confirmed he had.
About twenty minutes later, the doorbell rang again, interrupting Adrian and Vanessa.
“Honey, could you answer that?” Vanessa teased.
“Be ready for more, babe!” Adrian chuckled as he rushed to answer, buttoning up his shirt. His irritation grew as he noticed the pizza guy again. Grabbing the pizza box, he frowned at its unusual lightness. Vanessa chimed in, “Did you eat the pizza? Why is the box so light?”
When Adrian opened the box, he was stunned to find divorce papers instead of a pizza.
“DIVORCE PAPERS? Is this some kind of joke?” he gasped.
“You might want to check the signature, Adrian!” Claire declared as she removed the helmet, stunning both him and Vanessa.
“SURPRISE!” she announced, storming in. “I’ve long suspected you were cheating—my love for you blinded me to the truth. How did I not notice you were with your mistress?”
Adrian protested, “Claire, you’re crazy. No one will believe you without proof!”
But Claire revealed a hidden camera tucked under her dress. “Everything’s recorded,” she said, her anger rising as Adrian pleaded for another chance.
“That’s enough! You’ve betrayed me for too long,” she declared.
Vanessa begged for forgiveness too, but Claire was done. “Both of you liars deserve each other! Pack up and leave my life—and my house—in one hour!”
With that, Claire tossed her wedding ring to the floor and stormed out, her heart heavy with the thought that her baby might never have a father—but preferring that over a deceitful one.
Months later, Claire was found basking in the golden hues of a Hawaiian sunset, embracing her newfound freedom, while Adrian, upon discovering she was pregnant, never once sought to be part of the baby’s life. His greed and betrayal had sealed his fate.
